Concern Debates League

We held a concern debate in our school last month. The other school were very strong .We had to do a lot of research on the topic ‘Food waste should be illegal’. On the day our team was Keelin, Riona, and Katie. They put up a very good case against the opposition. There were two judges .The judges had to make a difficult choice to see who the better team was. Keelin was our captain Riona was a second speaker and Katie was our third speaker and I was one of the subs .At last the judges made a decision. Our team were the winner! The judges said we were a very good team and congratulated us on our win. The next stage of the debating competition takes place on Wednesday 23rd in Corcreagh NS, Shercock Co. Cavan.

Let’s hope we win. By Darragh and Leo.

Edited to add: Yesterday sixth class went to Corcreagh NS. The school was very welcoming which was nice especially after an hour drive there. It was a very tight Debate so we were delighted that we won in the end. 5th class were waiting for good or bad news. We were delighted to hear the good news when they returned.

Edited to add: We later met Laragh No. 2 and enjoyed another lively and engaging debate. We also enjoyed another win which brought us to the County Finals against Arva NS. We welcomed Arva NS and our adjudicators and visitors from Monaghan Education Centre on Tuesday 12th of March. There was great tension in the hall as the debators fought fiercly to propose/oppose the Motion 'Our Generation Will Inherit a Better World'. We were proposing.

Unfortunatly, after a thoroughly enjoyable debate, we found out that opposition had won. Well done Arva!

After all our hard work on researching and working together 5th and 6th class were rewarded with an afternoon tea party in the school hall. There was lots of tea and a huge number of cakes/buns eaten so needless to say we really enjoyed it.
